Mithali Raj expresses hope- my journey will inspire girls to fulfill their dreams

New Delhi. Mithali Raj, the first female cricketer to be awarded the prestigious Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna Award, expressed hope that her achievements would inspire the country's girls to fulfill their dreams. The 38-year-old Indian women's cricket veteran was awarded the country's highest sporting honor, the Khel Ratna, by President Ram Nath Kavand. A film about the life of Mithali, who has played more than 300 international matches in her career, is also going to be released soon.

Mithali is one of the 12 players to receive this prestigious award this year. "Women are a powerful catalyst for change in sports and when they get the definition they deserve, it inspires many other women to pursue their dreams," Matali wrote on Twitter.

"I am hopeful that my trip will inspire young girls across the country to pursue their dreams," said the captain of the Indian women's Test and ODI team. He represented the country in 220 ODIs and 89 T20 Internationals.

Matali shared a note on Twitter. (Twitter)

"When I was growing up and thinking of making a career in the sport, my dream was to wear the Team India jersey," he wrote. I have always wanted to represent India which is a matter of pride for the country. Proud to be a part of Indian cricket. It was a wonderful journey but it would not have been possible without my team mentor, family, friends and players. Any kind of respect from the government motivates us to give our best.
